The year 2014 marks the hundred year anniversary of the First World War. Serbian separatists assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdidand on June 28, 1914. In the first days of August 1914, the great powers sealed their alliances with various declarations of war.
I recognize that the First World War hardly seems like light summer reading. But events in Gaza, Israel, and the Ukraine continue to teach us that this is not the lightest of summers. And as history books go, Taylor's volume is pretty enjoyable.
